Day 101

Mile 1777.3 to mile 1811.9

PCT Miles: 34.6 (55.4km)

Total Miles: 1811.9 (2899.0km)

Except for the hiker i overtake that was reading a book while hiking, absolutely nothing out of the ordinary happened today. So I’ll write about the next trail closure (which is 12 miles ahead of me) and my plan for tomorrow.

When I left Ashland, I knew that the Trail Fire plus some other fires around Diamond Peak Wilderness forced the PCT to be closed from mile 1848.8 to 1907.2. But yesterday I heard that the closure starts now at mile 1824.0.

I don’t have internet to check any of that, but on my map it seems that I can circumvent this closure by doing the alternate on the Crater Rim Trail (which I would do anyway). I believe the vast majority of PCTers do the rim trail alternate.

Tomorrow I’ll go fast in the morning to arrive at Crater Lake’s cafe (15 miles away) before noon and get more information about the closures. I only have one more day of food, so I need to find a way to get to the end of the closure (mile 1907.2) where my resupply package hopefully awaits for me.
