Day 96

Mile 1658.2 to mile 1686.3

PCT Miles: 28.1 (45.0km)

Total Miles: 1686.3 (2698.1km)

I was not exactly expecting so much elevation gain today, but the trail leaving Seiad Valley is super steep. It was a tough day: it felt like I was hiking uphill all the time. My watch says I climbed the equivalent of 412 stairs today and it was the day that I burned more calories ever (5478 kcal)!

For the whole day I could see the smoke in the horizon. I must say that I enjoyed the view, but it’s kind of scary to realize that something is burning so close and the air quality is far from ideal. The more I hiked (further and up), the better it became to breathe.

Water is getting a little bit tricky to get. I refilled my water three times today, all of them in very trickly streams. Well, at least there is water and I never needed to carry more than 3 liters at once.

The positive side of all the elevation gain is that it’s much cooler now. The past night was so warm that it was difficult for me to sleep. I have a feeling that tonight I’ll sleep very well πŸ₯±.
