Day 34

Mile 613.2 to mile 639.6

PCT Miles: 26.4 (42.2km)

Total Miles: 639.6 (1023.4km)

Beautiful morning! I left camp before 6am and the sun was already out. It’s very easy to observe that the sun is rising earlier and earlier.

Today was an interesting day in the sense that, since yesterday, the next two water sources (that provide water for ~40 miles) are two caches maintained by a trail angel πŸ‘Ό. I have no idea what hikers would do without those water caches.

During the night the winds were crazy. Surprisingly in the morning it was just a breeze but it picked up in the afternoon and there were some strong gusts that were a little bit scary. I really hope this wind thing is something from this region and that in the Sierra things will be calmer

I was feeling much more energized than yesterday and hiked in a very good pace, even though there were quite some uphills. As I eat, the backpack is becoming lighter. Also I realized that if I keep the daily mileage around 24 miles instead of 20, I can arrive in Kennedy Meadows South (the official end of the desert and beginning of the Sierra) one day earlier than I planned. I did well yesterday and did well today, so things are on track. For tomorrow I’ll have to hike at least 25 miles because of water reasons. Good chances that I arrive in KMS on Thursday instead of Friday πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ!

I only saw 6 people today and it was the first time I saw every single one of them. So far from all the hikers I encountered since Tehachapi, I’m the only one who’s bringing food to go straight to KMS. The other option β€” that seems preferred by the others β€” is to hike once more to some town and resupply. I’m happy that I’m going in one go.
