Day 32

Tehachapi to mile 587.5

PCT Miles: 21 (33.6km)

Total Miles: 587.5 (940km)

This morning I spent two hours having breakfast at the hotel. Granola, waffles, bagels, muffins, scrambled eggs, juices and coffee. I was weirdly proud on how much I could eat without feeling full.

Very conveniently there’s a bus 🚌 to the trailhead where I left off. Precisely on time, at 9:30 🕤 it arrived and 20 minutes later I was hiking the PCT. Even better, the ride was free 🆓!

The first eight miles would be an ascent and the next water source was in 16 miles. Besides food for seven days, I was carrying 3 liters of water plus 2 cans of nonalcoholic beer (leftovers from yesterday). It was not a bad idea to have kind-of-cold beer for the first two hydration stops of the day.

Miraculously, hiking uphill under the sun wasn’t so bad because of the strong wind. Maybe a bit annoying but at least not so exhausting. I was in good mood, feeling rested, so the day just flew by.

Sixteen miles later, at the water source, I checked and the next water would be in 20 miles! That means packing 5 liters of water. I decided to have dinner at the water source, so I wouldn’t need to use water to cook later at camp. I cooked a bag of dehydrated mashed potatoes that is meant for 8 portions. After cooked, it weighed about 1.2kg. One point two kilos of food for dinner. And I was not even so full after that. Crazy!

I kept walking for 5 more miles until I found a nice campsite where other 4-5 people are also camping. Since I didn’t have to cook, I used my time to have a good stretch. It’s now 20:52, only 8 minutes for hiker’s midnight! 😴😴😴
