Shikoku Henro
hiking the historic Buddhist route, established over 1,200 years ago
In the spring of 2023, I embarked on an unforgettable adventure – the Shikoku Pilgrimage. For 45 days straight, alongside my companions, we traversed the island’s 88 sacred temples, delving into the tranquility of its landscapes and the richness of Japanese culture.
Amidst the temple visits and moments of serene contemplation, there were also plenty of laughs and shared meals with my fellow pilgrims and locals alike. From savoring new culinary delights to stumbling upon hidden gems in temple towns, each day was an exciting chapter in this grand adventure.
Sure, there were moments of fatigue and muscle soreness along the way, but looking back, those challenges were just part of the journey. The pilgrimage wasn’t just about visiting temples – it was about embracing the thrill of the unknown, creating memories, and discovering the resilience within ourselves.
